super cute and actually fit
I ordered these a size big because I am between sizes and assumed that they would run small (as board shorts for tweens do---I can barely get one leg in most). For once, they were too big! Hurrah! I called to exchange them but since they don't do exchanges I returned the big pair and ordered the smaller size. Altrec waived the shipping fee since these were so close to the $45 free shipping. I got the smaller size and they fit beautifully and have a little give in the thigh from what feels like spandex. I had been looking high and low for a board short that hits mid thigh instead of at the knee and finally finally found them. Perfect! They go with the Carve Designs Women's Maui Halter Tankini Top, which I got on Amazon (not sure why it's not on Altrec).

Great idea, slightly strange fit
What sold me on these shorts was the stretch. Too often in boardshorts I feel bound and stiff. I thought that having a slightly stretchy pair would be perfect. The color is GREAT! The picture doesn't show, but the shorts are trimmed in a cute orange/blue/green polka dot print. The material feels durable and the shorts are comfortable. The downside for me is that the waist is stretch too, which makes them slip down. this could be improved with a drawstring instead of snaps and a zipper. Also, the leg opening is also cut almost into a flare, giving them a "bell-bottom" look. Because of the large waist and flare legs, when I pull them up, they give me a "masculine bulge" at the crotch area. Other than my new "package", I really do like these shorts. I may see if I can sew an elastic waist into them though.
