Marmot Women's Streamline Jacket

Marmot's lightweight and highly compressible Streamline Jacket is a rugged version of Marmot's popular PreCip Jacket. This is a perfect packable choice for hikers and climbers who spend as much time on a trail as they do making their own way. The fabric is made from Marmot's PreCip polyurethane, a microporous polyurethane barrier that's impregnated with silicon dioxide particles that allow the passage of tiny vapor molecules but block the penetration of the larger liquid-form version. Other microporous fabric designs are often plagued by inconsistent sizing which creates damp spots, but the silicon dioxide particles create a uniform consistency throughout the garment to help keep you dry everywhere. The Streamline has a mesh lining and PitZips beneath the sleeves for convenient venting. The attached hood neatly rolls into the collar when not in use and the entire jacket stuffs into a compact zippered internal pocket.

Great all-around jacket
This is basically the precip jacket, but has a very thin fleecy lining for slightly colder days (not for warm weather). It's good for a water/windproof layer over a sweater without being as bulky as a parka- I've been wearing it around town/shoveling/etc. I'm usually a medium, which fit, but was a little snug (fits differently than the precip because of the lining- the precip in medium is almost a little bit baggy), so I opted for the large. I would definitely recommend this jacket.

Seam taping is suspect
I own two Marmot jackets with PreCip technology. Both of them are several years old now. They are constructed well and have held up nicely over time. This jacket, on the other hand, is not constructed as well, especially the seam taping and stitching. The quality of the fabric itself is good/equivalent, but the seam taping is cheaper and thinner. I ran a flashlight along the seams and could see light penetrating some of stitching holes. Granted, the holes were small and not extremely common, but the light getting through at all, tells me this jacket will leak after long periods of water exposure. This is quite puzzling, since I just bought some 2010 Precip pants and the seam taping on them is very good, just like my older jackets. The stitching also is not as nice with several loose end threads. Is the stitching issue a durability issue? I'm not sure. All I know is that the stitching does not look as polished as my other PreCip jackets. At any rate, I am disappointed in the quality of the seam taping of this jacket and it is going back. That's too bad, since I really like it otherwise.
