My husband has the older version of these shorts, too, and likes the new ones very much. He likes most of the design changes - for example, the new buckle on the belt which allows you to open w/o sliding the belt out - but he does think the rear pockets are less roomy. The fabric and fit is great.

lightweight
these shorts are lightweight, and quick-drying___ perfect as bike shorts for daily riding. The zipper pocket is welcome, too. I recommend.

Canyon Shorts
These are very comfortable shorts, lightweight, and cool. Made very well and will last me years. From this point forward, I will only purchase Mountain Hardwear shorts. Excellent choice.
