Outdoor Research Men's Saturn Suit

This one-piece suit is ideal for winter mountaineering, backcountry skiing, or other activities in all-day cold. And you could do a lot worse under a dry suit. The full P-System zipper runs all the way up to the neck and has three sliders for convenient relief or excellent ventilation. The zipper is surface mounted for maximum comfort. Two large, surface-mounted, stretch-mesh front pockets provide tons of storage, which are especially useful when afternoon warming has caused outer layers to be shucked and the Saturn becomes outerwear for a while. To minimize bulk inside boots, the cuffs are made of thin, super-stretchy PowerStretch 50.

Great layer
Too many layers and you have a problem with your harness fitting (multiple layers being tucked in). A one piece suit puts an end to this problem. I have both the Mountain Hardware and the OR version of this. I don't like the rainbow zipper on the M.H. I am 5-9, 175 pounds with a 44" chest and 32" waist. I bought the large in the M.H. version and there is just too much excess material in the middle. I purchased the medium in the OR. It fits a little snug in the chest but overall, a much better fit. The zipper system is much more comfortable. It is one zipper that goes from your neck to your lower back with 3 zipper pulls that can be located where you want. It is also heavier than the M.H. Overall I think the OR is a much better piece than the M.H.

OR Saturn Suit on Everest Summit
I wore the OR Saturn Suit to the summit of Everest on May 24, 2008. It was warm and stretchy under my down parka and down pants at minus 25 degrees F. The clever zips helped with inevitable calls of nature. As a medium size woman, the men's small fit me pretty well, though it was a little long in the body. I recently bought another of these suits for a European climber who cannot get them in Belgium. She and I will be on the same Denali expedition in May wearing our OR Saturn suits, hopefully to the summit.

Warm and comfortable!
Fit well and does not restrict movement. This was the first time skiing that I haven't been cold!
