Outdoor Research Men's Transcendent Down Sweater
Lightweight, packable and oh-so-toasty, the Outdoor Research Men's Transcendent Down Sweater will keep you warm on wilderness backpacking trips and hut-to-hut ski tours in the backcountry. Ultralight 20-denier ripstop polyester shell fabric helps block out a cold wind on a ridge while elastic cuffs and a drawcord at the hem seal in body heat. Stuffed with 650-fill down, this OR jacket has a high warmth-to-weight ratio and will stuff into its own hand pocket to take up very little space in your pack. Pull it out when the temperatures drop and it will loft back up into its original, slightly puffy shape. Keep your headlamp and map in the front chest pocket when the sun goes down and you're still looking for the hut and warm your chilly hands in the 2 front zippered pockets as you wait for the woodstove to get its glow on. A standard fit makes this winter coat perfect for layering under a weatherproof shell and the smooth polyester taffeta lining slides on easily over a base layer for a camping trip in crisp fall weather. Offered in stylish, versatile colors that blend in against the granite and stand out in town the Outdoor Research Transcendent Down Jacket for men will help you rise above the earthly discomforts of cold weather in the mountains.

Reviews - Outdoor Research Men's Transcendent Down Sweater
Every Day Down
A true down sweater that wears great all by itself. My main use of this jacket is for an outer layer, my basis for this review. The jacket is a home run IMO, it is super light and very warm with minimal under layers. It's not bulky at all so you're not looking like the Michelin Man when out and about. OR did a fine job with this jacket, the warmth to weight ratio is super. It does a good job in blocking modest winds and is somewhat water repellent, but not water proof. It did well in beading showers, but extended stays in the rain showed signs of soak through on the outer shell. The weather here has been in the mid to upper 30's, and I can say that this jacket with a t-shirt and a thin fleece kept me toasty. It's not a high gram weight down fill so it's not for arctic like adventures, but for my uses it performs superbly! I'm 6'1" 175lbs and the medium fit perfect with enough room to fit a t-shirt and a Patagonia R1 under without issue. I'll also say that I have not experienced some of the issues regarding the down leaking out. Maybe they have changed the material in the later models, but I have not found any down leakage. I liked this product so much that I also purchased the hooded version. The outer shell does seem thin, but it is rated at 20D ripstop (whatever that means) and seems to be what other products have as well. I will say that it has been used with a backpack and has rubbed up against various objects without any signs of tearing or snagging. I am very happy with this product and with OR in general.
Everything expected and more!
I'm a big fan of nearly everything OR makes and this is perhaps my favorite item yet! This jacket serves as a fantastic layer with its ability to compress to almost nothing, however it stands alone as one of my favorite winter outer layers! It is very warm when outside in the elements to around 30 degrees, but also breathes so well that I find myself leaving it on most of the day while indoors. It fits true to size. I'm 6'1'' at 190, the Medium is perfect and still fits great under my Medium GoreTex shell. I have OR's Maestro jacket, and love the Transcendent sweater now for the days that the Maestro is just too warm.
Very Toasty and comfy
Very nice and warm down jacket. Performed well in damp and cold conditions in the Smokies this winter. Ideal for backpacking in cold weather because it is so packable and lightweight, but still very warm.
