Patagonia Men's Capilene 3 Crew

Ideal as a baselayer for endurance activities in cool to cold temperatures, the Patagonia Capilene 3 moves moisture effectively to keep you dry. It's brushed interior retains heat, while it's smooth jersey exterior glides easily beneath layers. The fit is contoured and sleek without being restrictive. Made from quick-wicking, fast-drying and insulative 64% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) Capilene 3 polyester, with Gladiodor natural odor control. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene Core Performance Capilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports.

  • Dense "honeycomb" fabric is brushed to boost thermal value, softness, and compressibility; glides smoothly within layering systems
  • Insulative, breathable, and moisture-managing fabric offers long-lasting comfort hiking, cross-country skiing, and climbing; Our most versatile baselayer fabric
  • Flat-seam construction provides clean, finished look with fine thread for 'barely there' seaming
  • Yoke, shoulder panels and raglan sleeves merge out of the way of bib, pack, or wader straps
  • Side seams are rolled forward for chafe-free mobility and added comfort under hip belt; Shaped hem provides tailored look and reduced bulk when tucked in
  • 4.8 oz. 64% post-consumer recycled and 36% virgin polyester impregnated with Gladiodor™ anti-odor finish; 100% recyclable polyester
  • 198 g. (7 oz.)

Patagonia: Men's Capilene 3 Crew
The Patagonia Capilene 3 shirt is the best shirt that I own. It can be worn as a shirt or under another shirt when the weather gets colder. The shirt is warm without bulky materials used in most other outdoor shirts. This shirt is a high quality shirt that will be part of my outdoor activities for years to come.

I own four of them
Having four of these shirts in my closet that I use throughout the winter, I can readily recommend them. The capilene 3 shirts are amazing at keeping me warm without be bulky. They tend to pill a little bit after several washes, but not bad. I especially like the long sleeves. I am 6'2" and wear a size large. I typically have a problem with standard long sleeve shirts and need to buy tall sizes (34/35 length). The capilene 3 shirts have extra length in the sleeves which fit me well. The size runs a little small with the intent of being a base layer. Overall, a fantastic product.

Costanza's Velvet
Like George says, if it were socially acceptable I would ensconce myself in Capilene. Patagonia is pricey, sure, but this shirt is well worth the pennies you'll pay. Forget about the knockoffs and off-name brands, as I've tried them all. I keep coming back to Patagonia's line of Capilene. It is well made, soft, fuzzy slipper comfy, doesn't pill up, breathes exceptionally well, and wicks away all your troubles. Well, your sweat troubles anyway. Cap 3 is the perfect weight as part of a layering system for a cold winter hike or tossing midges into your favorite trout stream in January. And I won't even entertain the idea of skiing in any other baselayer. On a good day, my Cap 3 crew is all I need under my shell. Think of this shirt as your own personal tauntaun carcass...without the smell. I also bought the zip version, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I'm 5'8" and am carrying a bit of a winter spare tire right now, so the Medium fits a bit snug on mah belly. The sleeves are long but, hey, Patagonia clothes are made for stringy athletic types, not doughy soft backpacking anglers like me. For that reason, I can't do the Capilene pants; they're just too dang long. *sigh* And shhhh...don't tell anyone: I'm wearing it at the office right now, too. These folks are clueless! Business casual, indeed.
