Patagonia Women's Capilene 3 Zip Neck

Our most versatile baselayer for the broadest range of temperatures, quick-wicking Capilene 3 has a brushed interior that retains heat and a smooth jersey exterior that provides superior glide for snag-free layering. The slightly fitted silhouette affords a bulk-free fit without compromising mobility. Shoulder and side seams on the tops are thoughtfully placed to reduce friction from a climbing sling, pack or luggage straps. The look is streamlined. Bottoms have a slightly lower rise to both free the torso and reduce bulk within cold-weather layering systems; the scalloped, feminine waistband is brushed for next-to-skin comfort. Made of quick-wicking, fast-drying and insulative 64% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) Capilene 3 polyester, with Gladiodor natural odor control. Imported. Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene Core PerformanceCapilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions ? from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports. I use capilene 3 all winter long to keep me warm and dry while trail running. It is wonderful! I am a short distance (2-3 miles) runner who appreciates quality gear to encourage my routine excise program.

Get this older model of Capilene 3 while you can!
I love the high/low weave of this older model Capilene. While the newer model is a good layering piece, I miss the great wicking of the high/low weave, and have gotten some of this older model while I still can. So pay attention to whether you want the old weave or the new and choose your item accordingly! Altrec seems to still be offering both. I'm an passionate hiker, and in all my years at it, I've never found a better wicking product than Capilene, in all its versions over the years. I don't find that the wool products out there dry as quickly as Capilene, and I also find it acceptable in terms of odor retention, though I have to admit that my body chemistry doesn't leave much of a smell even after 3 weeks out. Finally, I know that Capilene costs a little more, but the sales here help a lot, and it's certainly less expensive than wool. There's not a lot of stretch in the current versions - Patagonia used to make a stretch Capilene, but since I've retired from climbing, I don't find I miss that quality much.
