Adding a no nonsense mechanical advantage, its internal cam auto locks on a big catch, to reduce the human error factor. More comfortable when holding tension, and smooth on a lower with its lever release, the Grigri the preferred device when it comes to aid climbing simplicity and reliability. The Grigri is excellent for belaying a leader or second, and single rope descents.

Must have!!!
Although the auto-locking is no replacement for a skilled belayer, the gri-gri makes life so much easier!!! Although it's useless for rapelling, and thus it's no replacement for having an ATC, I would highly recommend it to climbers of all skill levels.
