Men's features in women's pants
These pants have all the good features that many men's pants have. Good deep side pockets. A zipper on one of the cargo pockets. A hidden "billfold" pocket inside the back. Why aren't more women's pants made with such good pockets! I bought these for a self-supported bicycle tour. They are gusseted in the crotch, so I'll be able to wear them comfortably while biking. The material seems very durable. They also have a nice button/tab feature at the ankles so I can keep them from catching on the chain. Nice! The pants are different from other convertible pants in that they use a pleat and a "velcro type" closing system instead of a zipper opening in the bottom of each pant leg to help slide the legs off over shoes. I'm not sure how I'm going to like that....we will see. One nice feature about using a pleat/velcro system instead of zippers on the bottom is that it makes these pants much more easier to hem up if necessary. For short people wanting convertible pants, that makes a difference! The other thing that is different with this pants compared to other convertible pants is that there is no distinction on the upper part of the pants legs as to to which leg is the right leg and which is the left. It's a handy feature on other convertible pants that is not present on these...but it's not enough to take off a star on the rating. Finally, in terms of fit....these pants run REALLY large. I had to return these pants twice to get something that fits....and they are still loose on me! I'm 5'3" and weigh 138. The size 10 short on me is a bit big for me in the waist. I could have gone with an 8. I LOVE the fact that Royal Robbins makes these pants in Short sizing....otherwise, at 5'3" I would have never been able to wear them (unless I hemmed them). It's great to have them be a workable length for me right out of the box.
Royal Robbins Women's Zip N' Go Pants
I'm almost 6 feet tall and size 16 long. When I order pants online they almost always wind up being too short. These fit perfect. The pants are very well made of comfortable lightweight material. The various pockets of different sizes are useful. The velcro tabs at the inside bottom of the pants allows extra room when detaching the pant legs over hiking boots. The pant leg zippers are well made and the legs are easy to detach or reattach. The elastic waist is comfortable with just enough give. The customer service was outstanding. The first pair I bought were mis-tagged and were too short. Customer service checked with the Royal Robbins factory before shipping the free replacement. I'm buying another pair!
Works for Honduras
Been looking for cool, light weight, durable travel pants for humanitarian work in Honduras. Think I found 'em. The many pockets excite me. I've worn them only once so far and found them more comfortable than any other pants I own. The real test will come in May in the hot and humid Honduran climate.
