Ruff Wear Approach Dog Backpack II (XXS) (Fall 07)

Sizing runs small. I have a wired hair jack russel and his girth is very wide. The XXS is adjusted as loose as it will go to fit him. The pack is very well made with covered zippers and padding on the underside straps. I have a Small for my Labrador and it fits him with room to spare. Both dogs walk very freely with the pack and got used to it immediately.

Buck wore the pack with zero attitude or problems first time out and acted like he was something special. Second night he trotted over and stuck his head into the harness while I was making sure the straps were not tangled. Both nights the pack was empty and he walks better with the leash connected to the harness. Third night out I added a water bottle to each side and he loved it! Fourth night out I did not put the pack on him and he was being a bit hard headed on our outing. Fifth night out the pack goes on and he is a happy camper. These were just short 1.3 mile walks to see if he will tolerate the pack and get him used to wearing it. The plan was to go out this past weekend but my brother came to visit. Maybe this weekend. I ordered a med and the pack is very well made. There seems to be padding in all the right spots. Buck is a Gr Pyr / Lab mix and currently hits the vets scale at 68lbs. He should put on about 10 more lbs I am guessing an the pack I believe will fit after he gains more wt. The only concern that time will weed out is with the deep deep deep chest that Buck has is there enough padding on the fwd belly strap. Anything smaller the answer would be yes and it appears to be enough - time will tell though. The only thing I would change is how the chest strap connects to the belly strap. It connects to well and is a pain to put on and off. That stated there is no slipping and works great. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this product. I would purchase it again if I had need for a second one. Jay

We have two Havanese, about 14 & 16 lbs and the XXS is a perfect fit for them. They got used to them very quickly and don't seem to be bothered by them at all. Our trainer recommended weighted packs to "give them a job and drain some energy"... it's working!
