Sierra Designs Tov Jacket
First, shipping was quick and spot on from Altec. The Tov jacket arrived in the black with red trim as ordered, the dark color was chosen to prevent the dirt and coco spills from showing up during our backpacking trip. The pre-trip jacket fit was perfect, with the slightly longer sleeves and jacket bottom. I am 117 lbs. and 5'- 6". The Tov was easily stored into the provided stuff sack and stored into the backpack for a three days trip to the coast, at Point Reyes National Sea Shore. The days preceding our trip, provided some concern as we had rain in the park, with winds at 20 mph and higher gusts. The evening conditions provided the first test of the Tov jacket. Strong winds, damp conditions, partial cloud cover and low forty degree early evening made slipping into the Tov a priority before starting dinner. Needless to say as we watched the sun set, while cooking dinner, being cold was not even a thought in my mind. With the Tov keeping torso warm, the rest of my body stayed comfortable with light gloves and a knit hat. As the evening continued, I noticed one of our group members had forgotten their knit hat and I offered mine. I pulled the Tov hood over my head to replace the borrowed knit hat. And with easy the hood on the Tov jacket blocked the wind around my head and continued to keep my head and ears warm as the rest of my body in the jacket. Waking up the next morning, I pulled the Tov jacket out from between my sleeping pad and bag and slipped it on. It had a slight damp feel do to all the condensation that had occurred over night. The fog had come in during a period with no wind and proceeded to make everything so damp. I felt like we had an inch of rain over night. The Tov remained warm with a high loft, and it kept me warm like the preceding night. Making breakfast and breaking down the campsite provide this jacket the opportunity to get wet and dirty, which it did. The jackets shell became damp and dirty, but the DriDown remained lofty and did not clump up. Dirt brushed off the dry jacket easily and stored back into its stuff sack. Once home the Tov jacket was removed from the stuff sack and brushed off clean and stored. Its looks great and has the same loft as new. The Tov jacket will be heading out in two weeks for a snow camping weekend. Would I recommend the Tov jacket? Hands down yes. So far it a 10 out of 10. And all my expectations have been met. Regards, Scouter84
