Best large lumbar pack around
I purchased the large 850 cube inch Mountainsmith Day lumbar pack, and returned it a few days later to buy the 1000 cube inch North Face Dayhiker. Of these and other large lumbars, the Dayhiker had the most generous hip padding, allowing for the most comfortable carry of 10-15 lbs. The thick padding allowed most of the weight to be secure to the hips, and adjustable stabilizer straps kept it snug and close to the back. The zippers are small compared to others, but never jammed and strong enough to lift the entire pack by. The side bottle pockets can fit 1-liter Nalgene bottles, and fit 1-liter military canteens even better. The outside stuff pocket is small but can still fit a thin rain jacket. The compression straps do block the main zipper when used, so I usually leave it unbucked, but it does a good job to flatten the pack when in use. While it isn't waterproof, the contents were only mildly damp even when the pack on rained on. Most rain jackets can fit over this pack anyway. It was large enough for a slim 14" laptop, or most 12" laptops. It also worked well as a small diaper bag for dads who don't want to wear traditional diaper bags. When worn on the stomach, the baby cab actually sit on it for easy 1-hand carry since dad's don't have mommy hips. It's great on the trail too, as the snug fit allows for crazy moves w/o sloshing around. I also use it on long road bike rides, and it covers only my lower back, allowing the upper back to vent well. For the part of the back it does cover, it doesn't vent so well, but I don't think any lumbar really does. Now my wife wants one for a dedicated diaper bag since I'm always using mine.

Perfect pack for what I was looking for.
I needed a lumbar pack that held a lot of equipment. This pack was perfect, I couldn't believe I fit everything I needed into this pack. It has a lot of pockets for organization, that was nice. And whether you want to use it as a lumbar pack or use the shoulder strap, it's comfortable to wear. I'm definitely satisfied with this purchase.

GREAT PURCHASE!
I use this pack everyday! It is my everyday bag, and it fits all of the essentials for a day of hiking. All of the straps are incredibly comfortable. I got this bag because I have pain in my lower pack and hip. Regular backpacks make the pain worse, but since owning this pack my pain had significantly decreased. this bag is great for anyone who likes to carry the essentials.
