Warm and Comfortable Jacket
I am a woman, wanted to replace an older version of this jacket I have had for years. I am 5'8", 145 lbs. and bought the medium, the small would have been a slightly better fit as it is a bit boxy but it is super comfortable and the small was not available at the time (and I got an excellent deal on the medium). I find the women's version to be more fitted than I wanted. This jacket is very warm and cozy; I wear it every morning taking my dog on a walk in chilly Central Oregon in the winter. I think it will be an excellent jacket for camping and I look forward to using it for many years!
I bought this jacket a few years ago and intended to use it as a zip in liner on my coat. It does a really good job as a liner, but I have found that I end up using it a lot more often all by itself. It is really warm and comfortable. I really like that you can stuff it into one of its own pockets for storage since it makes it take up less space in my pack when I go into the back country. It has been pretty durable and I expect it to last for quite a while.
More useful by the day
The TNF Redpoint jacket is a jacket that becomes more versatile the more I wear it. It has a nylon outer shell is tougher than the more delicate , but lighter Summit series down jackets. It is warmer than most soft-shells due to it's primaloft insulation, but has less water resistance. It's not waterproof so the zippers are more standard issue-- ie, bigger and easier to use. The Redpoint can be zippered into the respective sized Triclimate jacket or shell. Most of the time, it can be worn alone and with it's standard fit, there is sufficient room to layer. With a base layer, it's useful in 30-50 deg F weather with non-aerobic activity. It's not a technical jacket so if your activities demand it, there are better ones out there. It's more a jack-of-all-trades type that can serve many purposes and the price offers great value.
