Good jacket, but some shortcomings
The ST Transformer Jacket looks sharp. It is a fairly lightweight shell so I need to fit layers underneath it for cold Michigan skiing. Comparing it to my 15 yr old steep tech jacket, the armpit is a little tight for layering, it doesn't have armpit or back vents, and could use some more large pockets for gloves/masks/hats (although the backpack could be used to hold these). The collar is high enough for good face protection, but should be a little larger diameter to fit turtlenecks and face masks underneath it. The hood is so big that it falls over my eyes and does not have a pull back feature, so I'll have to sew a tuck in it for it to be usable. I wasn't sure if I'd like the belt, but when I tried it on it looks good. My old steep tech jacket had wrist cinch straps with a wrist watch wide band on top of them, so I could put a watch and compass on them; the new jacket lacks this feature. The removable backpack is about right for packing lunch and a couple of small items. In summary the ST Transformer Jacket looks great, is more waterproof and lighter than my old ST jacket, but lacks some of the features that add functionality for skiing day after day.
