Really unique - in a good way
These boots really are different. The asymmetrical tongue placement and the tucked in sides to the soles make them look different from any other boot. But these things are functional: no soreness on the top of my foot, and no awkward kicking myself when using the boots for something other than hiking like driving, crawling around in a tent, or riding a bike. The fit also feels different: I really felt the wrap around shape, and perfect rocker. I've only used the boots for a month on a few hikes and around the town but feel very confident that I won't blister as usual. I will use them only for backpacking from now on as they don't feel as robust or thick soled as my normal boots, although quality and finish are great. I want to preserve them for the use they are intended for as I don't expect them to last too long. The trade off is totally worth it for me.
Great lightweight hiking boot
Though exceptionally light, these boots offer great ankle and arch support. Comfortable and waterproof, they breath about as well as can be expected for a "waterproof" boot. I put them through an 18 mile trek filled with rocky switchbacks, several miles of dense bushwhacking and a 2500 elevation gain. They performed quite well. Finally, laces that hold with a single bow tie, no doubling needed. Sizing feels accurate, though the toe box is a bit wide, but I enjoyed the room on descents. Though we had no rain, I did take the opportunity to trudge through stream water on many of the crossings we did and the boots remained dry. Although not particularly aggressive, the treads seemed to grip wet rocks fairly well and were solid on loose trails and mud. Not sure about the durability of the soles as they feature "grippy" rubber points around the tread. All in all, I am very happy with these boots and can heartily recommend them for those in search of a very lightweight, Gore-Tex hiking boot. I bought them after returning a pair of Innov8 Roclite boots. They were unbelievably light, yet I worried about rock intrusion into the boot via the sole which was a bit too thin for my liking. The Trekstas had no such issue, and at around 15 oz per boot, are still amongst the lightest boots made. The snug ankle collar kept debris out fairly well. Looking forward to getting out there again with them!
Unbelievable hiking boots
I am a total newbie when it comes to this stuff. I bought these boots last year because I read so many good reviews about them in various magazines. I wanted a lightweight waterproof boot that would last a long time and these fit that description perfectly. I have hiked over sand, wet grass, wet rocks, gravel, dirt roads and these never lose their grip. I even took them jogging one time just to see how it felt!!! They are very breathable as well. I recently wore them on a 90 degree (very humid) day in June and I hiked two hours while wearing a pair of thick wool socks and a pair of liner socks underneath. At the end of the day my feet felt fine. No blisters, no wet soaks from sweating like crazy, and no heat on my feet while hiking. Highly recommended
