Volkl Aurora - As close to a 1 ski quiver as you can get!
LOVE them! If I could have three skis in my quiver, I would take (all Volkls) Aura for powder, Aurora for all mountain and Fuego for groomers/spring. I had demoed them all (as well as many others). Being in the west, and only willing to splurge for one ski...Aurora is the one. It is not a ski for the timid, as there is no forgiveness if riding in the backseat. I got them late Feb 2009 and got many powder days and a few spring days. They race right through the crud like butter. They float really well through the powder. I like them on the groomers, but not as much as I loved the Fuegos. If I was skiing all groomers, I would've opted for the Fuegos (they were rockets). The Aurora is my first true all mountain ski and I am in love...counting the days til I can get back out there (it is only October now).

Not for the forward skier
I have to say I do love this ski all in all. I have never owned a womens ski in my life until now and I will NEVER buy another one again. I have always skied mens aggressive, high end, race and all mountain skis. Since I have worked in the ski industry for so long I figured why not give a "women specific" ski a try. NEVER AGAIN! I am a very forward skier and womens skis are NOT made for forward skiers. The Aurora is an AWESOME ski if you are the "typical woman" skier. If I get the slightest bit forward the Aurora washes out in the front and loses ALL stability. When I sit back a little and center my weight the ski is extremely fun. The Aurora wants to be on edge at all times unless in the powder. THIS IS NOT A FORGIVING SKI for the women looking for one and/or are not on top of their game at all times. Great response from edge to edge, takes charge in any condition, fast, powerful, and all around an awesome ski. I ended up moving the bindings back slightly so I can still be a little more forward. Keep in mind I am not the "typical" woman skier. I am very forward, very aggressive, on edge when ever possible, and have a huge need for power and speed. So if you are a forward skier or don't want to ski hard or fast or don't ski aggressively or you need a forgiving ski at times, this is NOT the ski for you.
