General Description

Deep Creek Trail leads northwest from Telluride into the Mount Sneffels Wilderness. It crosses several streams, with no developed bridges, then reaches Deep Creek following it a few miles north. There are some steep areas on each end of the trail. It is located almost entirely in aspen timber with a few scattered spruce and fir stands. The lower elevations and southern exposure of Deep Creek Trail allow for earlier use than most trails in the area. There are some overlooks that provide panoramic views of the ski area and the San Juan Mountains to the south. Some waterfalls exist along the east end of the trail in Mill Creek. This trail is also used by horses and bikes.

Directions from Telluride: Eastern Access: Drive west on Highway 145 one mile to Forest Road 637 (Mill Creek Road). Turn right on to Mill Creek Road and follow it approximately one and a half miles to the Telluride Town reservoir. There is plenty of parking room near the reservoir. This is the eastern end of the trail.

Directions from Telluride: Western Access: Drive west on Highway 145 1.75 miles to Forest Road 638 (Last Dollar Road). Turn right on to Last Dollar Road and follow the road for about three miles to Sheep Creek. The trail is on the north side of the creek and is signed.
