General Description

By taking various connections of trails in the Portland and Cascade Falls trail system, a loop trip may be made around the amphitheater basin. Most people use the Portland Trail as a quiet, relatively easy day walk to relax and enjoy the vegetation and scenery while visiting Ouray or while staying in the Amphitheater campground. Most junctions are well signed and the trail is easily followed.

Directions from Ouray: Take Hwy 550 one mile south to the Amphitheatre campground turnoff. Follow the paved road into the campground. Keep left until you reach the trailhead.
