General Description

To access Bear Creek Trail travel north on Taylor River Road from Almont and turn right on to Spring Creek Road. Deadman Gulch Trailhead lies approximately seven miles north on Spring Creek Road. Follow the jeep road, Deadman Gulch approximately 3/4 miles until it becomes a trail. When you reach the trail follow it to the northwest for one mile before heading north on the Bear Creek Trail. The trail follows the creek for three miles before reaching Spring Creek Road. Lack of signs may make this trail difficult to follow. Vehicle restrictions may be in effect, so please check the current Gunnison National Forest Travel Map.

This route follows a jeep road for the first 3/4 miles up Deadman Gulch.

Directions from Almont: Travel six miles northeast on Taylor River Road, 742, to Spring Creek Road, 744. Drive six miles north to the trailhead.

Spring Creek - Spring Creek originates on the southwestern flanks of American Flag Mountain in the Elk Mountain Range. It's waters flow southward to Spring Creek Reservoir and on to the Taylor River.

Spring Creek Campground - Spring Creek Campground offers the solitude of the Gunnison Country. (It's worth the drive.) Anglers will enjoy this site because of its close proximity to Spring Creek and Taylor River.

Spring Creek Road #744 - This road accesses Spring Creek. It starts at the Spring Creek Reservoir.

Taylor River Road - The Taylor River Road is a paved, narrow, winding road, that follows the Taylor River through Taylor Canyon. Traffic is usually very heavy in the summer months.
