Ptarmigan Lake lies on Tellurium Creek above 12,000 feet in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. It is accessible by foot and hoof, due to the regions wilderness designation. The lake encompasses six surface acres and contains rainbow trout. The fishing is rated as good by the Forest Service. Tellurium Road, Forest Road 584, leads to the trailhead used to access this lake. It is a rough, four-wheel drive road with wilderness designated land on both sides.
Directions from Taylor Park Road #742: Drive to the northern end of Taylor Reservoir and continue following Forest Road 742 until you reach the junction with Forest Road #584 (four-wheel drive). Turn right on to 584 and follow it to it's end and the wilderness boundary. Park your vehicle and hike three fourths of a mile to the lake. (Please do not go off-road while using 584. The land surrounding the road is designated wilderness.)
