This trail provides a secondary access route into the La Garita Wilderness Area. The trail follows Pasture Creek for about 1 mile and then crosses over into the Rough Creek drainage. Herds of deer and elk are often seen at various places along the trail.
Directions from Lake City: Take Hwy 149 south 10 miles. Turn onto Forest Road #788 at the Slumgullion campground turnoff. Travel about 11 miles northeast to the Rough Creek Trailhead sign.

Rough Creek is my favorite part. The view from the top of skyline trail into Rough Creek is really worth the work. Conditions: Shale, loose rocks. Water Availability: The creek water is fine, filter as always. Recommended Clothing: Normal Colorado hiking gear; shorts, pants, coat, rain gear.
