General Description

Access to Powderhorn Primitive Area, a flat, high elevation, alpine tundra ecosystem offering expansive views of the San Juan and La Garita Mountain Ranges. Herds of elk are common sights at the upper end of the trail.

Directions from Lake City: Take Hwy 149 south 10 miles. Turn onto Forest Road #788 at the Slumgullion campground turnoff. Drive about 12 miles to Mineral Creek. A sign on the left marks the trail.
