General Description

The Nipple Peak East Trailhead is located north of Steamboat Springs and Steamboat Lake. The trailhead accesses trail #1147. Trail #1147 runs to the north of Nipple Peak, then south to trail #1156 on Lopez Creek and continues west to Slater Park, north of Hayden. Both trails are open to motorcycles, ATVs and snowmobiles. Trail #1147 also links to trail #1192, which is not open to motorized travel.

Directions from Steamboat Springs: Travel west of town on HWY 40 to Road 129, Elk River Road. Go north on 129 approximately 32 miles, then 1 mile west on Forest Road 047.

Normally Accessible: Early June through Late October (NOTE: Accessibility depends on snow depth and weather.) .

Report: We arrived at the trailhead only to find that it was closed to atvs but open to motercycles. Needless to say we were not very happy.What is wrong with the forest service. There taking our trails and slowly closing them one by one. Next motorcycles won't be allow then mountain bikes and so on.
