Report: Beautiful campsite alongside creek and peaceful the first night - a Thursday (May 17)- we were the only campers there. However, Friday night started a miserable noisy and threatening two nights as a result of gang bangers coming up from Monte Vista to drink and raise hell which included hassling campers. There were several campers at the site by Friday night...many left on Saturday as a result of the threat and noise. I thought that Friday might have just been a blow out and stayed on but Saturday was worse, with one pickup truck full of drunk local bangers roaring repeatedly through the loop tossing beer cans; on the last run through the little bastards fired what sounded like a 9mm pistol into the air on the run around the loop. Enough. Neve again. USFS worker I spoke with later noted that it is a popular drinking site for locals and that there have been numerous reports of vandalism, theft, and harrassment of campers. Too bad...nice site but not worth the hassle.
