General Description

This 5-acre lake is located 17 miles southwest of Creede on Forest Road 526 at an elevation of 10,000 feet. The use of gasoline powered boat motors is not permitted but electric motors are allowed. It is most suitable for small hand-carried boats, canoes or rafts. One can fish North Clear Creek, below the falls, but it is very steep down into the gorge, with no developed trail.

This undeveloped site can accommodate small group camping (family reunions, etc.), but there are no facilities. This is a good general area to come in the fall to observe and take pictures of fall aspen colors.

Directions from Creede: Travel southwest on Colorado Highway 149 for 6 miles, to the intersection of Colorado Highway 149 and Forest Road 523 (Middle Creek Road), then south on Middle Creek Road 523 for approximately 4 miles, to the intersection of Road 523 and the Lime Creek Road 528. Stay to the right at the "Y" intersection and follow Middle Creek Road 523 for approximately 3.5 miles, to the Karper Ranch Road intersection. Stay to the left at this intersection; it is approximately 3.5 miles to Love Lake.

Report: Great lake to just spend the afternoon at. Best spot for our fishing was on side of lake that road comes into. Especially right by water fall and in far corner. Fishing wasn't great during windy days. Used powerbait rainbow and powerbait worms. Only caught rainbow trout.
Conditions: Sunny every day. Water is pretty clear with minimal moss. A good many flies and bees. To get to other side of lake just walk back down the road a little and look for two logs crossing the stream running out of the lake. Logs are nailed together and very safe to cross.
Water Availability: There was plenty in the lake and there was a bathroom. The bathroom had no running water.
