General Description

The Trap Park trail follows an old road from the Long Draw Road up into Trap Park. The park is a beautiful valley bounded on the southwest by Iron Mountain and on the south by Flattop Mountain. The Neota Wilderness surrounds the park to the west, east, and south. Special regulations apply within the wilderness. From the end of the park, visitors can climb to the peak of Iron Mountain which offers panoramic views in all directions.

Directions from Fort Collins: Travel about 62 miles west on Hwy 14 then 4 miles south on Forest Road 156 (Long Draw Road).

Report: The trail itself is a VERY easy hike. After a mile or so plenty of possible campsites are available within the trees on either side of the river valley. At the time I went (early july) the conditions were very muddy. The creek itself was flowing heavily, but fishing was poor. I didn't see a single person catch a fish in two days on the river (and i only saw one tiny cutthroat). This is a perfect spot for familys, or for someone looking to go on their first backpacking trip
