This trail begins in the trees at the Herman Gulch Trailhead. It leads up Watrous Gulch, one drainage to the east of Herman Gulch. It begins in the trees and then travels above timberline, adjacent to a stream. Wildflowers abound in late June and July, especially in the upper section. The trail runs past an old sawmill where the Bard Creek Trail takes off to the east. Above timberline, the view is superb. The trail is a fairly steady climb up to Woods Mountain. Although horses are permitted on the trail, it is narrow in places and more suitable for hikers.
Directions from Idaho Springs, Georgetown: Travel west on I-70 to exit 218. At the stop sign turn right and then turn right again and take the frontage road east to the parking area. The trail begins by the restrooms in the parking lot. The trailhead is shared with the Herman Gulch Trail.
