Windsor Lake Trailhead

This trail accesses Windsor Lake in the Mount Massive Wilderness. The trailhead is accessible from the Hagerman Pass Road (Forest Road #105). It has an elevation gain of nearly 1,000 feet in a relatively short distance.
Directions from Leadville: From Harrison Street turn on to West Sixth Street to County Road 4. Make a right on to County Road 4 and drive to County Road 9 and the Sugarloaf Dam Site. From the Dam drive 4 miles to Hagerman Pass Road. Hagerman Pass Road will be on the left or south side of County Road 9. Drive approximately 4 miles to the Windsor LakeTrailhead. The first 3.5 miles of Hagerman Pass Road are improved gravel; beyond that a 4wd vehicle may be necessary. This trailhead is located on the southern side of the road a short distance passed the Native Lake Trailhead.

Difficulty: Number of People Encountered: 11-25 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: We backpacked and spent 2 nights there. It was beautiful but the weather was rough. 50-mph wind, rain, hail, snow on 7/30/04 Fishing was not very good (too windy) But the view is worth the hike. The mosquitos were extremely bad, don't go if you are low Conditions: Wind, Rain, Hail, Snow you name it. Did I mention Wind and Mosquitos? Water Availability: As long as you have a filter.
