General Description

Wurtz Ditch Trail is located where Wurtz Ditch Road meets No-Name Road (Forest Road 705). The trail leads south from the road junction and it is approximately 2 miles long one way. It climbs steadily from a beginning elevation of 11,216' to a high point of 11,972'. The end of the trail enters the Holy Cross Wilderness.

Directions from Leadville: Drive approximately 8 miles north of Leadville on Highway 24. Take a left on to Lake County Road 19 (Forest Road 100). Follow Forest Road 100 .9 miles and take the right fork. You will remain on Forest Road 100 for another .7 miles. At the next fork take the road to the right. This is Wurts Ditch Road (Forest Road 100). Travel on Wurts Ditch Road for approximately 12.75 miles. The trailhead will be on the left side of the road where it intersects #705 and begins descending.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Accessible: Late May through September (NOTE: Snow and mud may obstruct the trail in the Early Summer months.) .
