This is a good site for a day trip, but bring plenty of water, because it is very arid
Vogel Canyon lies 15 miles south of La Junta, Colorado, and contains two springs that contribute to the Purgatoire River. Many types of wildlife, including many species of birds, can be viewed in the area surrounding these springs. Especially good times for visitors to view wildlife are at sunrise and sunset. Other attractions to this picnic area include four hiking trails, ancient rock art, the Santa Fe Trail and interesting geological features.

Three covered picnic tables with grills, one vault toilet, two hitching rails, horse trailer parking and hiking trails are available at the site. Camping is allowed in the parking area, but not along any of the hiking trails. Drinking water is not provided.

Directions from La Junta: Drive south on Highway 109 for 13 miles to County Road 802. Turn right (west) on to 802 and travel one mile to a sign for Vogel Canyon. Turn left (south) and drive two miles to the picnic area.

Report: It is a very easy trail to follow. I would highly recomend it for older outdoor loving people who have a little difficulty exploring most canyons.
Water Availability: There are no available water sources, so bring what you will need.
