General Description

Michigan Creek Campground is located approximately 23 miles northeast of the town of Fairplay, Colorado. The campground consists of 13 individual family units. Each campsite includes a table, fire grate and parking spur. Drinking water, garbage collection and vault toilets are provided on site. The nearest public telephone is located in Jefferson, about six miles from the campground. The nearest fire and emergency services are also in Jefferson.

Michigan Creek Campground is located along County Road 54, which accesses the Continental Divide via Georgia Pass. This is a common travel route for sightseers going from Jefferson to Breckenridge during the summer months. Anglers may gain access to Michigan Creek at this campground. Michigan Creek Campground is popular for anglers and campers particularly from Denver due to its close proximity to the Front Range. There are also several hiking and mountain bike trails in the vicinity, including the Colorado Trail.


Directions from Fairplay: Michigan Creek Campground is located approximately 23 miles northeast of the town of Fairplay, Colorado. Visitors may reach this campground by taking State Highway 285 north from Fairplay 17 miles to the town of Jefferson. Then drive west on County Road 35 for approximately 3 miles to County road 54. Travel northwest on County Road 54 for approximately 3 miles to the campground.

Directions from Jefferson: Travel northwest on County Road 35 to County Road 54, continue northwest to campground entrance.

Report: Very secluded. Sites 1 through 4, and site 6 have lots of trees. Sites 9 through 11 have some trees. Sites 5, 7, 8, and 12 have few or no trees. No on-site water or trash pickup, but the restrooms (outhouses) were extremely clean and well maintained.
Conditions: Summer (Mid July). Lots of bugs (its been rainy this year). Very green with lots of wildflowers.
Water Availability: There is a creek nearby with fishing. No on-site water.

Report: Only 3 sites have shade (1,2,3). The rest are in a mountain meadow and so are sunny or windy. Great scenery though.
