Lizard Rock Trail begins from the Spruce Grove Campground, which is a fee area. To avoid the camping fee simply park your vehicle outside of the campground and walk to the trailhead. The trail is 2.5 miles long one way. The first mile + is easy climbing the last mile to Hankins Pass Trail is somewhat steeper. This trail leads to the western boundary of Lost Creek Wilderness and intersects with the Hankins Pass Trail and the Brookside McCurdy Trail. It passes a rock formation, the trails namesake, that looks like a large lizard.
Directions from Lake George: Spruce Grove Campground located approximately 13 miles northwest of the small town of Lake George, Colorado. Visitors may reach the campground by taking Highway 24 northwest from Lake George for 1 mile to County Road 77. Travel approximately 12 miles north on 77 through Tarryall City to reach the campground. The Lizard Rock Trailhead is located within the campground boundaries.
