Segment 5 of the Colorado Trail stretches 14 miles from Long Gulch Trailhead to Kenosha Pass. Beginning at Long Gulch Trailhead the trail leads into the Lost Creek Wilderness. (Bikers should access this segment of the trail from Rock Creek Trailhead on Rock Creek Road (133) to avoid entering the wilderness.) The trail crosses the head of the Black Canyon drainage and then slowly descends to and crosses Rock Creek. From there the trail crosses Johnson Gulch and begins to ascend. It reaches a high point of 10,400' before descending again into Kenosha Pass.
Directions from Jefferson: Access Long Gulch Trailhead: Travel north on Highway 285 approximately 1 mile to Lost Park Road (Forest Road 56). Turn right on to Lost Park Road and travel approximately 11 miles to Long Gulch Trailhead.
Directions from Grant: Access Kenosha Pass: Kenosha Pass Campground is located approximately seven miles southwest of the small town of Grant, Colorado. Drive west from Grant on Highway 285 to reach the campground.
