General Description

Burro Bridge is 2 miles past Dunton and is a good base camp for hikes into the Lizard Head Wilderness. The campground has 15 sites on a sloping hill above the West Dolores River. A few trees give shade, and there are some good tent sites. RVs can fit in a few pull-throughs. One site has a table suitable for wheelchairs.

Directions from Dolores, Colorado: Travel 37 miles north on Colorado Hwy 145, then take Forest Development Road #535 to Campground.

Seasonal Information:
Normal Services Available: Memorial Weekend through Late Fall (NOTE: Located on the West Dolores Road. Good campsite for those planning a hike in the Lizardhead Wilderness.) .

Calico National Recreation Trail - The Calico National Recreational Trail travels south across marshlands, through wooded areas, and uphill to scenic highlands. You can choose several routes via connecting trails for a day hike or an extended backpack.

Calico Trail - Today this trail receives light use yet provides some of the best scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

Navajo Lake Trail - After crossing the West Dolores River 3/4 mile from the trailhead, the trail continues through open meadows, forest and a series of steep switchbacks to join the trail from Woods Lake and then descends into Navajo Basin.
