General Description

This is a popular mountain bike loop near Durango which starting at Mayday, makes for a difficult workout. Alternatively, one can begin at Kennebec Pass which makes a long downhill run with most of the route on gravel road. NOTE: Care should be taken to make certain that you are indeed on the Slickrock trail from Kennebec Pass which heads generally east toward the Junction Creek Road. Numerous other trails in the vicinity could lead one astray. A common mistake is to head north into the South Fork of Hermosa Creek.

Directions from Durango, Colorado: Follow U.S. Hwy 160 11.0 miles west to Forest Access La Plata Canyon Road (County Road 124). Go north for 3.5 miles to Mayday. The gravel road can be ridden from the vicinity of Mayday, or bikes can be transported in a high clearance vehicle to Kennebec Pass, an additional 10.0 miles.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Accessible: Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend .
