General Description

This trail is excellent during late spring through mid-fall due to its relatively low elevation and southeast facing slopes. The trail winds through timber on the lower section, but opens up further along the trail. The trail crosses a stream several times. Viewing the fall colors of the Gambel's oak and aspen trees is a pleasure. It is also possible to see large game like elk and mule deer in this area.

Directions from Durango, Colorado: Drive approximately 8 miles east of Durango on Florida Road (County Road 240). Turn north at Colvig Silver Camp and go past the camp, over the cattle guard and continue to follow the road for approximately 1 mile. A strong 2WD with good clearance may be needed for the last mile of the road. Limited parking is available.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Accessible: Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend .
