Report: Nice location right near the town of Redstone. Lovely scenery but not close to the river. Don't camp in a double site -- one poor tent camper had a huge RV pull in and basically took over the whole site. I can't imagine how 2 RVs would fit. Unless you need electricity, I recommend Bogan Flats down the road.
Conditions: I chose this campground for its amenities since we needed a spot for 3 consecutive nights but was disapointed that our site was directly in the glare of the light above the restrooms. Also, the showers offered no hot water at any time of the day. Considering the high fee, one should expect hot water.
Water Availability: Water is plentiful.

Report: We camped in the Mechau Loop Tues.-Thurs. Sept. 17,18,19, 2002. When I attempted to make reservations through this service I was told the campground was full, but my friend called the Forest Service which said the campground was open and not likely full and that there had been some confusion about closing dates. Only 3 other sites were occupied in our loop. One of the hot shower/composting toilet buildings was closed. We enjoyed the showers but found the 24/7 fan noise of the composting toilet annoying and changed sites to attempt to get away from it.
Conditions: The gravel based/flat campsites had excellent drainage during several days of heavy rain. The trees are short and do not provide shade; each site is open but not too close to the next one in most cases. Dog poop was left every evening along the CG road by a couple walking their dog--did they come over from the Allgier/Osgood loops? Please clean up after your pets! After the weather cleared it got very cold and we were still in the frozen shade when we left at 10am. The cliffs and changing color of the trees and shrubs made a beautiful site, but there is road noise from the highway.
Water Availability: There was a water pump outside the bathroom.

Report: Was reasonably empty for the tail end of a holiday weekend. Amazing scenery, lovely site. We were on the Mechau Loop, close to the nice hot showers! I don't know how common this is in the US, but our site was hard gravel - not nice for the tent! All the other sites in the loop were like this, but I don't know about the other two sites. Camp hosts were wonderful, and we saw plenty of wildlife.
Conditions: It was very hot during the day, but quite cool at night

Report: Beautiful area. But can you believe the campfees?
