This hike starts in aspens and soon turns into a pine/spruce forest with numerous meadows of wildflowers. There are nice views of the Raggeds Wilderness to the south and high peaks to the north. It ends at the junction with the Arkansas Mountain trail. From here you can take the left fork to Carbonate Creek trail,or take the right fork to the Silver Creek Pass trail which also has magnificent views.
Directions from Carbondale: Travel south on Hwy. 133 25 miles from Carbondale. Turn left on County Road 3 into the town of Marble. Travel past Beaver Lake on the 4WD road. One mile beyond the lake, take road #315, or Lead King Basin jeep trail, to the left of the stream crossing. Park at the trailhead.
