Sitting at an elevation of 6,000 feet, Wentworth Springs Campground is located near Gerle Creek. In addition to offering camping facilities, the site provides close access for fishing.
Brown, rainbow, and brook trout can be found in Gerle Creek. Fishing is enjoyed east of Highway 49 from the last Saturday in April to November 15th. The California Department of Fish and Game plant rainbow trout every other week, May through August, in Loon Lake. The lake is accessible year-round, however, ice fishing is not recommended due to fluctuating water levels.
Motorcycle, ATV, and 4WD use available.
On site facilities: 8 camping units (2 double units), stream water and vault toilets.
Directions from Placerville: Travel east on Highway 50. The site is located 1 mile north of Loon Lake in the Crystal Basin, approximately 30 miles north of Highway 50 via the Ice House and Wentworth Springs Road. Access recommended for motorcycles and 4WD vehicles only.
