Report: Visited Convict Lake by chance. Beautiful place near high desert and Sierra Peaks. Visited there in mid August. Had ice in my plastic water bag in the morning which surprised me after the heat of the previous day. Make sure to get up early and watch the sun come up on the peaks of the Sierra. It is a beautiful awakening as the sun moves down the mountain and slowly lights up the campground.
Conditions: The campground was in good shape but much cooler than the lower elevations. Be prepared for cold weather even in August.
Water Availability: With a 40 degree sleeping bag, I froze and thought I was a wimp until discovering the ice in the water bag. Just be prepared for rapid cooling at night.

Report: If you're looking to fish or just to relax and be a part of the great outdoors Convict Lake is a great place to go. You have some of the best fishing in the Sierra's accompanied by pristine scenery. Also @ 7600 ft you can find the temperatures quite comfortable during mid July. During breakfast the first morning a fork buck thought our campsite would provide him the quickest rout to the creek and passed within 20 ft. Overall if you are a lover of the wilderness its a great place to camp and fish.
Conditions: Mosquito's are on patrol. Bring sunblock even if the temperature isn't above 80 deg.
Water Availability: Convict lake has a general store about 1/3 of a mile from the lake.
