Located 12 miles outside of the town of Chester, California, on the west shore of Lake Almanor. Campground is situated in a mixed coniferous forest. Elevation is 4,550 feet. Temperatures May through August are 45-90 degrees; September through October 25-75 degrees. Facilities provided include vault toilets in the campground and flush toilets at the boat ramp. Boat launch, swimming beach and amphitheater are also available. Popular activities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, stream and lake fishing, boating, water skiing, swimming and hunting. * Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 day minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends. Almanor South, Almanor South Multi-Unit, and Almanor Group Area are closed for the remainder of the 2002 season. * Reservations are taken from 5/15/03 through 9/1/03; sites may be available on a first come - first served basis outside the reservation season. A fee of $5/night for extra vehicles will be collected at the campground. No All-Terrian or Off-Road vehicles allowed.
Directions: From the town of Chester, take Hwy 36 for 2 miles west to junction of Hwy 36 and Hwy 89. Go 4 miles and turn left directly across from the Rest Area. Go 1 mile and turn right into the Almanor South Campground.
