General Description

The French Pete Campground is located approximately 20 miles southeast of Blue River at an elevation of 1,800 feet. This campground has 17 sites with trailer space, tables and fire rings. Potable water and toilets are available.

Originally constructed in 1933, French Pete Campground has evolved into one of the district's most popular campground. Located at the confluence of French Pete Creek and the South Fork of the McKenzie River, a
thick canopy of conifers keep this area cool and refreshing during the hot summer months.

Directions from Blue River: Travel 3.5 miles east on Hwy. 126 to Aufderheide Drive (FS road 19). Continue on Aufderheide Drive to French Pete Campground.

Normal Services Available: May through September (NOTE: May be open in the offseason, but without managed services.) .

French Pete Trail - French Pete Trail #3311 is a more difficult 9.7 mile hike at an elevation of 1,840 feet. The trail follows the French Pete Creek for 3 miles and up the French Pete drainage and ends at the Pat Saddle Trailhead.

Yankee Mountain Trail - Yankee Mountain Trail #3318 is a most difficult 3.7 mile hike at an elevation of 1,840 feet. This trial is recommended for the most experienced hiker to use their wilderness skills.
