This trail starts from the same parking area as the Cooley Glen Trail. It crosses a small river three times before reaching the Long Trail at Emily Proctor Shelter where a nice view awaits the hiker. A short high water enroute bypasses two of the river crossings. The 3.7 miles of trail is rather challenging. For those desiring a longer trek, turn north onto Long Trail at the Emily Proctor Shelter which is located at the junction of the two trails. Hike the Long Trail for 5.6 miles past Mt. Wilson 3,745 feet; past Mount Roosevelt, elevation 3,528 feet (Killington View); and past Mt. Cleveland elevation 3,482 feet. Turn left at the Cooley Glen Shelter and descend back to the parking lot via the Cooley Glen Trail. This entire loop is a little shy of 13 miles. The return trip (3 miles) offers wonderful coldwater fishing opportunities in the New Haven River. Brook, rainbow and brown trout inhabit the fast moving waters.
Directions from South Lincoln, VT: Travel south on Forest Road 54. Travel about 4 miles and turn left (east) onto Forest Road 201 and continue .3 mile to the trailhead parking.
