This cabin is situated on the east end of Florence Lake, which is on the west side of Admiralty Island. The cabin is primitive, with no electricity, plumbing, or phone. Much of the surrounding area is private land and has been clear-cut. Both brown bear and deer can be seen in the area; deer hunting is a popular fall activity. The cabin is an A-frame with a loft and can sleep up to seven people. It is equipped with wooden bunks, table, and benches. It is heated with an oil stove, and has an outside toilet. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear, and food. Users should bring #1 diesel oil for the oil stove. #1 diesel is available from local oil distributors. The person holding the reservation must be at least 18, and must be a member of the party using the cabin. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. There are NO discounts for Golden Age or Golden Access Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30.
You may reserve this cabin on the day of arrival, or up to 180 days in advance. Treat or boil water before consumption. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users users should be prepared for this. The land around the cabin belongs to a Native Corporation. A free permit is required for any activity on that land; permit information is available from the Forest Service. In fall, winter, and early spring, the lake may be frozen and the cabin may be inaccessible to floatplanes. Please contact Admirality National Monument for information prior to making reservations during these periods. All garbage and food must be packed out.
Florence Lake is on the northwest side of Admiralty Island; the cabin is at the east end of the lake, on the north shore. Access by floatplane only. One-way flight from Juneau is approximately 30 minutes.
