General Description

Admiralty Cove Cabin is in Admiralty Cove, a small cove within Young's Bay. The cabin is located along a fishing stream, about 1/4 mile from the saltwater beach. This cabin is in a primitive setitng, with no electricity, plumbing, or telephone. It is a one-room cabin with 4 bunks and will sleep up to 6 people. A 4.5-mile trail leads to Young Lake; a 0.75-mile trail leads to Admiralty Cove. Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table and benches, oilstove for heat, and an outhouse. Mattresses and cooking utensils are not provided. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags and pads, cookstove, cooking gear, and food. Users should bring diesel oil for the oilstove; fuel is available at local oil distributors. Access by floatplane or boat. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30.

Reservations can be made the day of arrival, or up to 180 days in advance. Treat or boil water before drinking. All garbage and food must be packed out. Keep open fires in fire ring. Gather only dead and down wood. Occasional poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared.

Directions: Admiralty Cove is a small, open cove within Young Bay, on the north end of Admiralty Island. Access by floatplane or boat with mooring buoy. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal. One-way flight time from Juneau is 15 minutes; by boat it is about 20 miles Juneau. Cabin users need to be aware of the large tide flate in Admiralty Cove. Much of the cove will go dry as the tide recedes; boat and floatplane access is effectively restricted to a 13' or highter incoming tide. This restriction of the tide level will affect your arrival and departure times. Refer to USGS topographic map Juneau A-2.
