Hikers who want to reach Royal Arch can choose from various trails to gain access to the Royal Arch Trail. Begin at the Chautaugua Park Trailhead and hike southwest on one of the graded, gravel pathways. The Chautaugua Trail is a good choice, although be sure to veer to the left when the path splits. Stay to the north of the Mesa Trail and you will reach the Royal Arch Trail.
The Royal Arch Trail leads .8 miles southwest through Bluebell Canyon to its destination. The trail begins at approximately 6,100 feet and ends at Royal Arch, which lies at approximately 6,950 feet. This trail is rated as moderately difficult. Use of trail finding skills is necessary.
Directions from Highway 36: Chautaugua Trail Access: Take the Baseline Road exit and travel west toward the mountains. Follow Baseline Road nearly 1.5 miles to the entrance for Chautaugua Park. Turn left into the park. Parking is free at this trailhead.
