General Description

Located in Upper Franklin Canyon, Berman Trail is a 1 mile hike to Mulholland Drive. The trail provides hikers a route across the Santa Monica Mountains from Franklin Canyon to Coldwater Canyon Park and Wilacre Park. This short route is rated moderate to strenuous.

Dogs must be on leash at all times. For the consideration of others, please clean up after your pet. Trail closures may be in effect during and following significant rainfall to protect park resources. Trails will be re-opened when dry enough to sustain public use.

Parking areas: The main parking lot is located at the Ranch Area adjacent to the Doheny House. Additional parking is available along Lake Drive and at the Sooky Goldman Nature Center.

Directions from Sherman Oaks, CA: (Upper Franklin Canyon) Take Highway 101 / Ventura Freeway to Coldwater Canyon Avenue. Drive 2.5 miles south. At the intersection of Mulholland Drive and Franklin Canyon Drive (directly across from Coldwater Canyon Park), turn right onto Franklin Canyon Drive. Go half a mile and turn left at sign for Wm. O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom. Park in lot on left next to nature center. Note: to reach Lower Franklin Canyon, continue south on the reservoir road and Franklin Canyon Drive. Bear left on Lake Drive to reach parking areas.

Directions from Los Angeles, CA: (Lower Franklin Canyon) Take the San Diego Freeway / US 405 to Sunset Boulevard. Head east on Sunset Boulevard and proceed several miles to Beverly Drive. Go about half a mile and turn left onto Coldwater Canyon Drive. Turn right on Franklin Canyon Drive and proceed about 1 mile making a right turn onto Lake Drive. Park at main lot at end of road. Note: to reach Upper Franklin Canyon, continue north on Franklin Canyon Drive past Lake Drive.
