General Description

The Chowchilla Park is located at Eastman Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills about an hour drive north of Fresno, CA. Tall grasses and scattered oak trees cover the rolling hills surrounding the lake. Wildlife is abundant. Local residents include bobcats, golden eagles, hawks wood ducks, deer, snakes, and bald eagles. Eastman is a designated trophy bass fishery and you may also enjoy catching crappie, trout or catfish. The visitor center is a good stop to discover the natural and cultural history of the area. A group picnic shelter is available for reservation. A playground, horseshoe pits, and restrooms are nearby. Nearly 8 miles of trails are available for hikers, mountain bikers, or horseback riders.

Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. The park is open year round from 8am-10pm. The group picnic shelter is available for $25-$30/day. The shelter will accommodate up to 100 people and 50 vehicles. For more information, please call (559) 689-3255.

Directions: 50 miles north of Fresno, CA. Take Highway 99 north to Ave 15 east, follow to Road 26 north to Avenue 26 east to Road 29 north. Turn left on Road 29 and travel 8 miles to the park entrance. Follow the signs into the campground.

Report: During the summer my husband and I practically live there. I love the scenery on and the trails are exeptional. You do hear cayotes at night and it might frighten you the first time.It has clean restrooms and showers in certain campgrouds. I enjoy going and I highly recommend it to familys with children Im sure they will enjoy it
Conditions: Like an y other outdoor activity you will get dirty and thier will be bugs I highly recommend bug spray and no scented perfumes(lady's) trust me very bad expirence.
Water Availability: The water is refreshing after the hike down to the water and it a remote place for privacy to swim with out the akwardness of the feeling of people staring.
