Eastside Trail affords a short hike to good fishing and swimming areas while ending at a vista that overlooks Packers Bay. An extended hike of 2.8 miles may be enjoyed along Waters Gulch Trail. This trail affords more scenic views and access to the 0.4-mile Overlook Trail. Recommended seasons for hiking area trails are spring and fall. Fish Loop Trail is another choice, which extends a mere 0.7-mile out to a camping area and shoreline fishing.

Directions from Redding, CA: Take Interstate 5 north 17 miles to the O'Brien exit. Turn left, drive underneath highway, then board on-ramp for Interstate 5 south. Drive 1.5 miles south to Packers Bay exit, turn west. Travel 1.5 miles on Packers Bay Road to trailhead and boat ramp.
