General Description

Starting from Eureka Gulch, the trail follows the creek through spruce, fir and aspen stands and meadows. Horses and motorized vehicles are not allowed. The trail crosses the creek twice and winds up a ridge above timberline past historic mining structures. Water may not be safe to drink. Views include Velocity Basin and Needle Mountains. Exposure to the elements can be severe. Follow the ridge south.

Directions from Silverton: SILVERTON SHUTTLE DROP OFF: Follow Greene Street in Silverton northeast to Town Park. Park shuttle vehicle is at the gazebo and tennis courts. EUREKA GULCH ACCESS: From Town Park, head back towards town, taking first paved left onto Colorado Hwy 110 towards Howardsville and Eureka. The paved road turns to gravel. Cross three concrete bridges. After the third, continue .25 mile and turn left onto an unmarked road which climbs steeply up Eureka gulch. Follow for 1 mile to where a side road drops down to the left. Park along the road here or use 4WD to continue down the side road .75 mile to the trailhead at the old Sunnyside Midway Tram Station.
